Athlete's Foot

Athlete's foot is also called as Tinea pedis. It is a skin infection caused by a kind of mold called fungus. This condition is worse in hot weather because the fungus causing Tinea pedis prefers moist and warm skin. They are especially seen in the folds between the toes. But all foot rashes are often confused with tinea pedis. Only those caused by fungus growing on the skin is referred as Tinea pedis.

The fungus causing this condition is only mildly contagious. Though everyone gets exposed to this fungus sometime or the other, only some people get it. The reason behind this is unknown. Tinea pedis stays in the skin for a long time. Even after the healing of rashes, microscopic examination may show the fungus to be present. The medicines may be helpful in curing the rashes but the fungus may still be hiding in your skin resulting in the recurrence of the rashes.
