Basal Cell Carcinoma

A basal cell carcinoma refers to a form of skin cancer. It occurs as a result of sun damage to the skin. This disorder slowly spreads to the neighboring tissues but they do not spread to the other parts of the body that are distant. The best way to test the cancerous skin is through biopsy. A biopsy will reveal whether the skin growth is cancerous or not. It involves removing a small piece of the skin and testing it under the microscope in a medical laboratory.

The causes for basal cell carcinoma include constant exposure to the sun, previous history of basal cell carcinoma etc The best way to prevent this condition is to avoid sun exposure. A quality sun- screen or moisturizer with an SPF of 15 or higher should be used. People who have had basal cell carcinoma should have their skin examined once in every six months to one year.
