Bullous Pemphigoid

Bullous pemphigoid results in the occurrence of large blisters in any part of the skin. Especially on the skin fold areas such as groin and armpits. It can also occur in mouth. The upside is this is neither a life threatening disease nor a contagious disease. It is an auto immune disease. The immune cells in the body attack the skin cells causing blisters. But the reason behind this attack is unknown.

Incase of breaking of the blisters, Polysporin or some other antibacterial ointments should be applied to avoid infections. Oral medications such as Dapsone, Prednisone and Imuran can also be used. But these medications can have side effects. So close monitoring by your doctor is required at least once in a month. There is no precise medication for bullous pemphigoid. It can only be controlled (not cured) with the help of medicines. In some cases, this condition gets better on its own and disappears completely after a few years.
