Cystic Acne

Cystic acne refers to the acne with the formation of cysts. It is a type of abscess that is formed as the result of clogging of oil ducts. It affects the deeper skin tissue and is commonly found in the face, neck or upper body. It occurs especially during the teenage years. The symptoms of cystic acne include red, hard and tender lump under the skin. An acne cyst appears similar to a nodule. It is filled with pus and will generally have a diameter of 5mm or more. This kind of acne can be painful. Cystic acne can lead to scarring. Squeezing it may cause a deeper infection and more painful inflammation which lasts for a long time

Under severe conditions, the doctor may prescribe isotretinoin. It refers to an oral drug that is taken for 15 to 20 weeks on a daily basis. It reduces the size of oil glands to reduce the production of oil. Generally treatment for this kind of acne includes medication to treat infection and prevention of further development of the lesions or surgically removing the lesions Acne can be reduced by controlling the intake of oily items and by keeping the cholesterol level intact. But leaving this kind of acne untreated can cause more serious infections and scarring.
