Hand Dermatitis

Hand dermatitis is also called hand eczema. It leads to hand rashes resulting from a combination of sensitive skin and irritation or due to allergic reaction from external materials. Patients with hand dermatitis will have dermatitis in other parts of the body as well. In many cases even blood relatives will have hand dermatitis. The causes for this condition are contact with environmental irritants and removal of natural oil from the skin through constant exposure to soaps, detergents, chemicals and other substances causing dryness and cracks. It further results in redness and inflammation. Some people are genetically programmed to hand dermatitis. It is however not a contagious disease.

Cortisone ointments are popular in treating extreme cases of hand dermatitis. They should be applied in small amounts and massaged gently in the hand. Even capsules such as Epitrex can also help to control this condition. But it will take a long time for the skin to recover and there are also possibilities of recurrence.
