Tinea Capitis

Tina capitis is often referred to as ring worm of the scalp. It results in an itchy and scaly rash of the scalp. It is caused by fungal infection. This fungus affects the hair and scalp resulting in rashes. Tinea capitis is very common in preschool- age and adolescence. It is contagious as it spreads through combs, brushes, caps, pillow covers, chair cloths and other inanimate objects. It is treated with antifungal creams and lotions.

Oral treatments such as Griseofulvin are also given for 8 weeks. The oral medication should be taken for the entire 8 weeks. If the patient fails to take them for the entire period, then he should face treatment failures. Nizoral shampoo is very popular to treat this condition. It is used to wash the scalp 2-3 times a week. Tinea capitis is also treated with FungRx. It is less contagious when oral medication and shampoo is used.
